São Cristóvão -
Founded for Cristóvão of Barros on January 1,
1590, it was the first Capital of Sergipe and
fourth older city of Brazil. Besides preserving
an architectural group of great beauty, dated of
the XXVII and XVVIII centuries, keep a sacred,
considered fantastic art patrimony, the third
more important collection of Brazil in number
and quality of pieces exposed in the Museum of
Sacred Art.
Laranjeiras – The occupation of the center-west
area of Sergipe, begun by the Dutchmen in the
beginning of the XVII century , provided the
appearance of an important municipal district
whose economy, sustained by the cultivation of
the sugar-cane, became the cradle of the economy
of the State. Laranjeiras was founded like that,
under the historical point of view, it became a
true museum to open sky and root of the black
culture, thanks, above all, to its monuments and
constructions of the time.
